In keeping with our mission to serve men with prostate cancer, the Sperling Prostate Center (Delray Beach, FL) is assisting in a clinical research study to help develop a next-generation blood test to detect prostate cancer. This study is sponsored by Miller BioConnect (“the Sponsor”).
Miller BioConnect needs to gather clinical information from healthy male volunteers over age 45. Clinical information will be gathered by means of blood tests and fast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Participation is strictly voluntary. Your study doctor, Dr. Peter Miller, will explain the study to you in more detail and answer questions you may have.
This is a blood sample collection study to help develop a product to detect prostate cancer via blood draw. If you are qualified and consent to participate in the required study blood draws, you will receive
- A free prostate MRI fast screening scan to determine if you are negative for prostate cancer
- A free PSA (prostate specific antigen) blood test if you don’t have a recent one.
GOAL – The main goal of this research study is to collect health information and blood samples from men who do not have prostate cancer or other cancers. The blood samples along with other health information from participants may help the Sponsor develop new diagnostic tests that may help detect cancer or other diseases in other future patients.
NOTE: This study is not evaluating a treatment for a disease, condition, or symptom. Study test results will not contribute to any diagnosis your doctor would have made in his or her regular care for you.
What your participation involves
If you consent to be a voluntary study participant, the study doctor will ask you to give personal information about yourself, such as your year of birth, race, and ethnicity and medical history. The study staff will draw your blood (up to 65 mL of blood or about 11-12 teaspoons) for testing in this research study. These blood samples will be collected by a needle stick in your arm at Sperling Medical or Miller BioConnect. Anonymous (coded, no personal identity) copies of your imaging or other testing reports, as applicable, will be provided to the Sponsor, as part of data collected for this research study.
Confidentiality
The privacy of the information you provide will be protected as much as possible. Every effort will be made to keep all genetic research information obtained from your samples confidential, but absolute confidentiality cannot be guaranteed. Discuss any concerns with your study doctor.
Compensation
In return for your time, effort and travel expenses, you may be paid up to $50 for taking part in this study.
THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING THIS REQUEST.
