Dr. Eric Walser: A Great Addition to Sperling Prostate Center

Welcome Dr. Eric Walser to the Sperling Prostate Center

The Sperling Prostate Center is pleased to welcome Dr. Eric Walser to our clinical team.

Dr. Walser, a pioneer in focal ablation of prostate cancer, brings us his experience and authority as an expert in interventional radiology. Just as important, like each member of “Team Sperling” he cares deeply about men’s health in general, and each patient individually.

Coming from his successful medical career at the University of Texas, he contributes his skills as a talented clinician, a widely-published researcher, and an enthusiastic teacher/mentor.

In transitioning from an academic institution to our Center, he views this opportunity as a perfect match—and so do we. He and Dr. Sperling began a collaboration in 2019 when they were participants in an international consensus project on focal laser ablation as a prostate cancer treatment. Their personal and professional friendship has grown through to shared values, commitment to excellence, and embrace of technological advances in medicine.

With credit to Dr. Walser, our Center is particularly excited to add a new treatment called Transperineal Laser Ablation (TPLA). It is used to treat prostate cancer tumors as well as the urinary symptoms associated with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). Currently, Dr. Walser is one of a handful of practitioners, and as a researcher in its development he recently presented his results treating 158 patients at the 2025 meeting of the Society of Interventional Radiology.

Dr. Walser has treated over 500 prostate cancer patients, and in 2019 he published his results treating 120 patients with focal laser ablation. He has been interviewed in the Houston media for his work in prostate cancer. He was a panelist on “The Doctor’s show” on NBC discussing the use of laser in ablating tumors.

At the Sperling Prostate Center, Dr. Walser will continue to treat patients and evaluate new clinical techniques in men’s health. Since finding both teaching and research rewarding, he will continue to explore ways to mentor young doctors and to collect his clinical data.

We could not be prouder or happier to have Dr. Walser join us at Sperling Prostate Center. He is a great addition!
